What is Hypertension? Hypertension, also called high blood pressure, is caused by the pressure due to excessive pumping of the heart..It is one of the leading causes of death in the world today. In addition to being a deadly condition, hypertension can also cause damage to vital organs like the liver, brains, kidneys and the heart. Unfortunately, people suffering from hypertension may not even be aware of that condition till it becomes too serious a problem. Blood pressure measure always has two readings, one taken when the heart is beating and the other when the heart is at rest. The normal values for these two readings are 140 and 90 respectively. Causes of Hypertension: There are two types of hypertension. One occurs due to the increase in the pressure of the heart while beating., mostly due to old age. This type of hypertension called essential hypertension or primary hypertension. This condition can be controlled with the proper precautions, and many people with essential hypertension may live for eighty years or more. The other called Malignant hypertension occurs due to the disorders of any of the vital organs, such as the brain, the liver and the kidneys. Hormonal imbalances can also cause hypertension in some cases. These are very fatal and need to remedied urgently. Malignant Hypertension is also called Secondary Hypertension Hypertension Symptoms: Some of the common symptoms of hypertension are: • Giddiness, Dizziness and a Feeling of Instability. • Palpitations. • Insomnia (inability to sleep well). • Digestive problems and Constipation. Treatment of Hypertension: Hypertension, like any other physical disorder needs to be treated by a physician. Yet, hypertension, not being a disease but only a condition can be controlled through diet, exercise and adjustment of lifestyle. There are several claims about "cures" for hypertension through use of herbal medicines and other remedies. I do not like to go into the merits of these claims. But there is a simple method which does not involve use of any drugs or remedies. This technique called Slow Breathing can bring down your blood pressure quickly and almost effortlessly. This method has medical recognition - FDA approved, easy to use and practicable by all. This method has been used and endorsed by such institutions of repute as the Harvard Medical School, The Mayo Clinic, Rush-Presbyterian Hospital and the American Heart Association. Studies published in the Journal of Human Hypertension and numerous other respected medical journals reveal that: Breathing slowly and deeply (less than 10 breaths per minute) for 10 to 15 minutes a day while extending exhalation results in significant reductions in blood pressure. That's because gentle, slow breathing acts like a natural safety valve to relax muscle tension, especially in the chest area, allowing constricted blood vessels to open and relieve pressure on the heart. It literally takes a load off your chest! I hope you found the information given in the article useful. You can have a Free Audio Demo at: http://www.usfreeads.com/1715920-cls.html

Hypertension – Symptoms, Complications of This Silent Killer

Have you ever felt your heart to be pumping so hard especially when you are at the height of extreme emotions like anger or happiness? Have you ever felt a sudden rush of blood when you are nervous or excited? Are these conditions related to hypertension?

 What is Hypertension?

Commonly referred to as high blood pressure, hypertension is a medical condition characterized by the elevation of blood pressure. There are different kinds of hypertension but the most common is the arterial hypertension. This condition could also be classified into two - essential and secondary.

Essential hypertension refers to the condition when there is no specific medical cause that could explain the occurrence. On the other hand, secondary hypertension is caused by secondary conditions like kidney malfunctions or adrenal tumors. When not treated immediately, this condition could become persistent and could cause a lot of other ailments especially those that concern the heart. It has known to be the common risk strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm. It is also said to be the leading cause of chronic renal failure. As an effect of hypertension, a person who frequently suffers such is known to have lesser life expectancy.

Though medicine poses specific ranges of blood pressure that are considered to be at the level of hypertension, the condition is still relative to a person. Sometimes, hypertension is dependent on how a patient can sustain certain blood pressures. When the blood pressure rises 50 percent above what is known to be the normal to a person, it already calls for a treatment.

 Signs and Symptoms of Hypertension

Hypertension is only determined through a blood pressure measurement equipment and reads the systolic and diastolic of the blood. There is actually no identified sign of hypertension; rather, it varies from one person to another. Some people report to have experienced headaches, fatigue, dizziness, blurring of vision and facial flushing.

One of the misconceptions of hypertension is its association with stress, mental tension and anxiety. These conditions may affect the flow of the blood but those could not alone cause the imbalance condition of the blood flow. However, accelerated hypertension is closely associated with somnolence, confusion, visual disturbances, nausea and vomiting.

Being in a hypertension condition is not permanent; and it could not be severe enough to cause symptoms. Symptoms only surface when signs of end-organ damage are determined or are possible; otherwise, the condition is still considered accelerated hypertension. Malignant hypertension, on the other hand, is caused by increased intracranial pressure. These could be diagnosed through retinal examination.

Another misconception is that hypertension is known to be only experienced with people in old age. However, this condition could also occur in children and teenagers. Obesity in children is known to be a factor of developing the occurrence of such phenomenon. The detection and intervention in childhood hypertension could be determined though early evidence of the development of atherosclerosis. Aside from that, temperature could also affect the condition in children especially that they are in the height of an active lifestyle.

 Complications of Hypertension

Hypertension , as mentioned earlier, could cause a lot of complications. Alone, it is not considered as illness since it is temporary. However, this condition increases the risk in developing other health conditions. Complications include cerebrovascular accidents or strokes, heart attack, heart failure, damage to the retina of the eye and renal failure.

Prevent Osteoporosis - Calcium is Not Enough

You've heard it a 1,000 times as a kid. "Drink your milk if you want strong bones!" We all know that milk is a good source of calcium but if you're like me, milk doesn't rank high on the list of favourite beverages. Clearly I'm not alone. An astounding 75% of girls over the age of 15 consume less than the recommended daily allowance of calcium, and in women over the age of 45, osteoporosis accounts for more days spent in hospital than many other diseases, including diabetes, myocardial infarction and breast cancer. These are very frightening statistics that every female should know.
Building bone is a slow and gradual process that begins in the womb and leads up to the greatest bone development in the years before early adulthood. Bones usually reach their maximum mass when people are in their mid-thirties. By age 40, more bone is lost than is made (about 1% per year), and our bones start to become weaker. In women, bone loss may reach 3-5 % per year during the first five years after menopause because prior to menopause, estrogen helped to keep our bones healthy. At menopause, estrogen levels fall dramatically, and many women experience an accelerated rate of bone loss causing women to be at greater risk for osteoporosis than men.
The consequences of osteoporosis can be devastating. As bones slowly lose their mineral content and become fragile, even a gentle nudge can cause them to fracture. To make matters worse, there is often no prior indication of osteoporosis until bone loss has already occurred.
Not all calcium is created equal
We've all heard about the benefits of supplementing with calcium - but WHICH calcium is best? Calcium carbonate or calcium citrate? And combined with what ingredients? Making sense of all the research can be a daunting task. The consensus however, points to calcium citrate as the best choice. It is the most easily absorbed, can be taken by anyone, and new evidence has shown that calcium citrate plays a superior role in protecting against bone loss when compared to other forms of calcium. Aim for at least 1,000 milligrams of calcium per day in a comprehensive formula that includes 500 milligrams of magnesium. If magnesium is not present, calcium will not be properly deposited into bone and instead will deposit in soft tissue, causing kidney and gallstones, joint discomfort, as well as increased atherosclerotic plaque.
We've also heard a lot about vitamin D. It's important in its own right, but it's also essential to ensure adequate calcium absorption, bone mineralization and muscle function. A deficiency in this key vitamin is associated with decreased bone and muscle strength, resulting in higher risk of falls and fractures. We get most of our vitamin D through sun exposure, and only a limited amount from our diet. So it won't come as a surprise that living north of the equator puts us at a distinct disadvantage due to the limited amount of sun exposure we get during the winter months. Supplemental vitamin D has therefore been strongly recommended by the experts, even more so after the age of 50. Aim for approximately 800 IUs of vitamin D per day.
Diet and exercise are also important. Bones require physical activity to stay strong and healthy, and respond to exercise by increasing in strength and mass. As for diet, ensure you consume adequate protein, fruit and vegetables and avoid excessive use of alcohol or caffeine-containing products such as tea, coffee or some sodas, which can stop your body from absorbing calcium. Smoking also contributes to bone loss so if you smoke...try your best to quit
Prevention of osteoporosis throughout your life is essential! Put these practices into place and take a stand against osteoporosis starting now.

Osteoporosis is defined by WHO as a reduction in bone mineral density, more than two standard deviations below the corresponding age and sex matched control. It is usually defined as a disease involving elderly women who are post-menopausal. This is clearly one of the biggest subset of the patient spectrum. But, in addition, it may affect elderly men as well. And is some pathological conditions, it may affect much younger population. So, by far, nobody is immune to this disorder.

Among the many contributing factors that precipitate osteoporosis, the most important is prolonged immobility. Post-menopausal women (due to lack of estrogen), prolonged steroid therapy, anti-convulsive therapy, hypo- or hyperthyroidism, and alcoholism are among the common causes of osteoporosis.

A backache is the commonest complaint. In some patients, the diagnosis is first made when they present with a fracture of the vertebral body (most common), lower end radius (forearm) or fracture neck femur (hip). Such patients need treatment for the fracture and continued long-term prophylaxis to prevent subsequent similar events.

The golden rule to prevent osteoporosis is exercise.

This helps in adequate channelization of the Calcium and Vitamin D reserves of the body. Along with Calcium and Vitamin D supplementation in diet, and medication that block bone eating cell activity help restore the balance. Women in post-menopausal age group may need Hormone Replacement Therapy.

The medical treatment for osteoporosis includes the following categories:
1. Calcium and Vitamin D supplementation- Up to 1500 mg of Calcium in divided doses with 400 I.U. of vitamin D per day.
2. Estrogen supplementation- In post-menopausal women suffering with osteoporosis
3. Bisphosphonates- Osteophos in daily or weekly or even monthly depot injection may be administered.
4. Calcitonin- Nasal spray in the dose of 200 I.U. per day
5. Parathyroid Hormone- A novel drug with good result is low dose para-thyroid hormone; drawback is cost.

The usual duration of therapy is 18-24 months, and Dual Energy X-ray Absorption (DEXA) scan is a good guide to both diagnosis and following treatment efficacy. Osteoporosis of men is a well known entity now. Usually considered as a disorder of women, it may affect men as well in all age groups. In elderly, it is often labeled as senile osteoporosis.

The Louvre Museum in France, housed in the former seat of French royalty (Palais du Louvre), is a massive maze of collections from diverse artistic and cultural worlds. A French flag proudly waves atop the castle. At its main entrance lies a glass pyramid created by I.M. Pei in 1989, which also serves as the entrance to the reception hall beneath it. It is the globe\'s most visited museum, with more than 20,000 visitors in a day.

There are around 35,000 artwork pieces and eight thematic departments. There are permanent collections such as the masterpieces of Rubens, Da Vinci, and Delacroix and Egyptian, Islamic and Greek art collections, as well as temporary exhibits that put the spotlight on specific artists or movements. There are guided tours available for both individuals and groups to make the visit to the Louvre a less daunting task for its guests.

Visitors overwhelmed by the numerous artworks can take a breather at any of the Louvre\'s restaurants or cafes. There is also a bookshop underneath the pyramid which sells books and gifts. For the shopaholics, the Caroussel de Louvre is a shopping haven within the Louvre Palace that has all the offerings of an upscale mall. The Museum is located in the 1st arrondissement on the right bank of the Seine. There are several entrances, with the Pyramid entrance being the most famous, and, as such, has the longest queues for visitors. Visitors may also want to try other entrances with shorter queues such as those in the Porte des Lions, and Galerie du Carousel.

The Louvre is accessible via the train (Line 1), as well as several bus lines. The museum is open every day except Tuesdays from 9am to 6pm (Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays), and up to 10pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Surely you know of an elderly relative or neighbor who has suffered a fracture from a fall and how difficult recovery from that kind of injury can be. These fractures are usually the result of weakened, fragile bones.  In fact, osteoporosis causes fractures in one out of every two post-menopausal women over 50.   Hip fractures are extremely difficult to recover from, and often result in a permanent disability.  Many women lose their independence after a fracture, and the medical costs can be huge.  In fact, thirty percent of hip fracture patients end up in nursing homes within a year of their fracture, and twenty percent die in the year following a fracture. Fractures in the spine can occur because the vertebrae become so weak that they compress.  This compression can be extremely painful and lead to loss of height or stooped posture.  Fractures of the spine require long recovery times, and lead to a very high risk of another spinal fracture within one year. If you think you don't need to worry about osteoporosis until you are older, think again.  Women typically have the most bone loss in the first 5 years after menopause.  So, if you are a woman in your fifties, you are probably losing bone mass already.  If you are Caucasian or Asian, have a small frame or have a family history of osteoporosis, your risk of developing osteoporosis is greatly increased. There are usually no symptoms of osteoporosis in the early stages of the disease. Osteoporosis can silently rob your bones of their strength, and you might be unaware of it until a fracture occurs.  Since your bones are at their peak strength at age 25, bones can begin weakening at an early age.  Even if you are a healthy woman in your early thirties, you should be aware of the risks of osteoporosis and the ways to prevent it. Don't wait to educate yourself about osteoporosis.  Talk to your doctor about the risk factors for the disease, ways to prevent bone loss and the newest treatments available.  There are many resources for learning the facts about osteoporosis, such as If you want to live a healthy and active life as you age, start preventing osteoporosis now. It's never too soon.

A disease in which bones begin to lose their density leading to a significant increase in the risk for fracture bones, osteoporosis can lead to severe complications which increase both morbidity and mortality following bone fractures.

The older you get, the more at risk you are for bone fractures and for the development of osteoporosis.

With age bones begin to lose collagen, protein, and calcium all of which are responsible for helping to strengthen bones and to hopefully prevent fractures.

For those of you who have been diagnosed with either osteoporosis or even osteopenia you are at the highest risk for fractures related to the loss of bone density and strength.

These fractures can result from even the most minor injury.  Osteoporotic fractures are known to occur when it seems that you are doing nothing at all.

Sometimes fractures occur with even routine daily activities.

This is the risk of osteoporosis.

Those most at risk for future osteoporotic fractures are those who have already suffered them in the past.  Some research indicates that for postmenopausal women who have already endured a vertebral fracture in the previous 12 months will also experience a subsequent fracture in the coming 12 months.

That is a rather sobering statistic.  It is for this reason that early and aggressive treatment and management of osteoporosis must be secured.

Osteoporosis is not something that is best left ignore or even under treated.

Aggressive treatment is necessary in order to hopefully obtain the best outcome.

With aggressive treatment and long-term management the hope is that you can significantly reduce your risk for more fractures related to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis complications include both morbidity and mortality.  Some who suffer from osteoporosis also suffer from a significant amount of pain, as well as days absent from work related to osteoporosis complications, decrease in quality of life, and for some, even permanent disability.

Often times for those who suffer from any osteoporotic fracture they never fully recover.

Hip fractures are a common complication of osteoporosis and not only put patients at risk for orthopedic complications and required surgery associated with this condition but also make patients more susceptible to deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia and other immobility issues such as a loss of muscle tone and strength.

Many who suffer a hip fracture related to osteoporosis find themselves requiring long-term nursing home care after the initial recovery period due to the morbidity associated with the fracture.  The current mortality rate in the first 12 months after a hip fracture is thought to be approximately 20%.

Kyphosis is a serious osteoporosis complication in which vertebral fractures ultimately lead to spinal deformity which can cause the hunchback known as kyphosis.  With kyphosis, the internal organs become compressed due to the deformity which can lead to breathing difficulties.

Osteoporosis must be aggressively managed in hopes of avoiding future long-term complications.  The serious complications associated with osteoporosis are ones which can severely alter your daily life.

Seeking medical care for osteoporosis is a decision you must make if you intend to regain control of your life and hope to ever stop the progression of osteoporosis complications.

Sudden Ear Ringing

People have suffered from sudden ear ringing or tinnitus for generations. Tinnitus is simply when someone hears a constant ringing in one or both of their ears, with no external sounds, noise or music present etc. This sudden ear ringing can vary from low to high pitch and it can be in one ear or both. At some point in most of our lives we have probably heard something like this but didn't consider it as having tinnitus because the sound did not last for very long.
It is possible for individuals to experience a sudden ringing of the ears. There are several different explanations of why this occurs. Most of the time, the ringing is not permanent and only lasts for a few minutes to a day or two. Sometimes the ringing of the ears is due to a build-up of wax or dirt in the ear canal. It is very dangerous to try to dig out the wax build-up. In order to cure this occurrence, buy an over-the-counter wash from your local drugstore that will clean the ear canal in a safe and gentle manner. You might also be experiencing sudden ringing in your ear due to an acute ear infection.
From time to time it is the prescribed or over-the-counter drugs that can cause a sudden onset of ear ringing. Unfortunately, on rare occasions these medications can actually lead to permanent tinnitus and/or hearing loss. It is also possible that once the prescribed amount is reduced, the ringing of the ears will be diminished or go away entirely. Some of the drugs that might having ear ringing as a side effect include naproxen sodium (Naprosyn, Aleve), loop-inhibiting diuretics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, quinine/anti-malarials, salicylate analgesics (which is higher doses of aspirin), oral contraceptives, ibuprofen and many other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, anti-depressants, and chemotherapy. Ear ringing relating to an ear infection might also be related to the use of ototoxic antibiotics.
Other causes of sudden ear ringing may be due to a trauma occurrence rather than something that occurs naturally like a dirty ear or an ear infection. Some automobile crash victims have reported a sudden onset of tinnitus after receiving a traumatic head injury. Some individuals have reported a sudden onset of tinnitus after receiving certain dental procedures such as a difficult tooth extraction or an ultrasonic cleaning that can cause hearing damage due to conduction of loud sounds through the bone directly to the ear. And of course, there is little you can do to protect your hearing in these instances. There is nothing that ear plugs can do because the sound is internal. A procedure you can protect your hearing from are MRI's, CAT's and other non-invasive scanning machines. These machines are very loud and could damage your hearing even if your head is outside of the machine while it is running. Most competent imaging facilities should supply you with earplugs.
With a sudden onset of ear ringing, you should consider the simplest explanation first. This condition may also be due to the recent exposure to a loud noise. Many people who have attended a concert complain of ear ringing for sometimes an entire day after the event is over. In these cases the ear ringing is due to the inner ear being damaged slightly and will not, in most cases, be permanent.
