Osteoporosis: A Health Risk for Women Osteoporosis affects over 10 million Americans, and 80 percent of those are women. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, an additional 34 million Americans have low bone density, a serious risk factor for developing osteoporosis and suffering a fracture.  Osteoporosis is a serious health risk for women, and the more you know about this disease, the more you can do to prevent it. Surely you know of an elderly relative or neighbor who has suffered a fracture from a fall and how difficult recovery from that kind of injury can be. These fractures are usually the result of weakened, fragile bones.  In fact, osteoporosis causes fractures in one out of every two post-menopausal women over 50.   Hip fractures are extremely difficult to recover from, and often result in a permanent disability.  Many women lose their independence after a fracture, and the medical costs can be huge.  In fact, thirty percent of hip fracture patients end up in nursing homes within a year of their fracture, and twenty percent die in the year following a fracture. Fractures in the spine can occur because the vertebrae become so weak that they compress.  This compression can be extremely painful and lead to loss of height or stooped posture.  Fractures of the spine require long recovery times, and lead to a very high risk of another spinal fracture within one year. If you think you don't need to worry about osteoporosis until you are older, think again.  Women typically have the most bone loss in the first 5 years after menopause.  So, if you are a woman in your fifties, you are probably losing bone mass already.  If you are Caucasian or Asian, have a small frame or have a family history of osteoporosis, your risk of developing osteoporosis is greatly increased. There are usually no symptoms of osteoporosis in the early stages of the disease. Osteoporosis can silently rob your bones of their strength, and you might be unaware of it until a fracture occurs.  Since your bones are at their peak strength at age 25, bones can begin weakening at an early age.  Even if you are a healthy woman in your early thirties, you should be aware of the risks of osteoporosis and the ways to prevent it. Don't wait to educate yourself about osteoporosis.  Talk to your doctor about the risk factors for the disease, ways to prevent bone loss and the newest treatments available.  There are many resources for learning the facts about osteoporosis, such as If you want to live a healthy and active life as you age, start preventing osteoporosis now. It's never too soon.

A disease in which bones begin to lose their density leading to a significant increase in the risk for fracture bones, osteoporosis can lead to severe complications which increase both morbidity and mortality following bone fractures.

The older you get, the more at risk you are for bone fractures and for the development of osteoporosis.

With age bones begin to lose collagen, protein, and calcium all of which are responsible for helping to strengthen bones and to hopefully prevent fractures.

For those of you who have been diagnosed with either osteoporosis or even osteopenia you are at the highest risk for fractures related to the loss of bone density and strength.

These fractures can result from even the most minor injury.  Osteoporotic fractures are known to occur when it seems that you are doing nothing at all.

Sometimes fractures occur with even routine daily activities.

This is the risk of osteoporosis.

Those most at risk for future osteoporotic fractures are those who have already suffered them in the past.  Some research indicates that for postmenopausal women who have already endured a vertebral fracture in the previous 12 months will also experience a subsequent fracture in the coming 12 months.

That is a rather sobering statistic.  It is for this reason that early and aggressive treatment and management of osteoporosis must be secured.

Osteoporosis is not something that is best left ignore or even under treated.

Aggressive treatment is necessary in order to hopefully obtain the best outcome.

With aggressive treatment and long-term management the hope is that you can significantly reduce your risk for more fractures related to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis complications include both morbidity and mortality.  Some who suffer from osteoporosis also suffer from a significant amount of pain, as well as days absent from work related to osteoporosis complications, decrease in quality of life, and for some, even permanent disability.

Often times for those who suffer from any osteoporotic fracture they never fully recover.

Hip fractures are a common complication of osteoporosis and not only put patients at risk for orthopedic complications and required surgery associated with this condition but also make patients more susceptible to deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia and other immobility issues such as a loss of muscle tone and strength.

Many who suffer a hip fracture related to osteoporosis find themselves requiring long-term nursing home care after the initial recovery period due to the morbidity associated with the fracture.  The current mortality rate in the first 12 months after a hip fracture is thought to be approximately 20%.

Kyphosis is a serious osteoporosis complication in which vertebral fractures ultimately lead to spinal deformity which can cause the hunchback known as kyphosis.  With kyphosis, the internal organs become compressed due to the deformity which can lead to breathing difficulties.

Osteoporosis must be aggressively managed in hopes of avoiding future long-term complications.  The serious complications associated with osteoporosis are ones which can severely alter your daily life.

Seeking medical care for osteoporosis is a decision you must make if you intend to regain control of your life and hope to ever stop the progression of osteoporosis complications.

Sudden Ear Ringing

People have suffered from sudden ear ringing or tinnitus for generations. Tinnitus is simply when someone hears a constant ringing in one or both of their ears, with no external sounds, noise or music present etc. This sudden ear ringing can vary from low to high pitch and it can be in one ear or both. At some point in most of our lives we have probably heard something like this but didn't consider it as having tinnitus because the sound did not last for very long.
It is possible for individuals to experience a sudden ringing of the ears. There are several different explanations of why this occurs. Most of the time, the ringing is not permanent and only lasts for a few minutes to a day or two. Sometimes the ringing of the ears is due to a build-up of wax or dirt in the ear canal. It is very dangerous to try to dig out the wax build-up. In order to cure this occurrence, buy an over-the-counter wash from your local drugstore that will clean the ear canal in a safe and gentle manner. You might also be experiencing sudden ringing in your ear due to an acute ear infection.
From time to time it is the prescribed or over-the-counter drugs that can cause a sudden onset of ear ringing. Unfortunately, on rare occasions these medications can actually lead to permanent tinnitus and/or hearing loss. It is also possible that once the prescribed amount is reduced, the ringing of the ears will be diminished or go away entirely. Some of the drugs that might having ear ringing as a side effect include naproxen sodium (Naprosyn, Aleve), loop-inhibiting diuretics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, quinine/anti-malarials, salicylate analgesics (which is higher doses of aspirin), oral contraceptives, ibuprofen and many other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, anti-depressants, and chemotherapy. Ear ringing relating to an ear infection might also be related to the use of ototoxic antibiotics.
Other causes of sudden ear ringing may be due to a trauma occurrence rather than something that occurs naturally like a dirty ear or an ear infection. Some automobile crash victims have reported a sudden onset of tinnitus after receiving a traumatic head injury. Some individuals have reported a sudden onset of tinnitus after receiving certain dental procedures such as a difficult tooth extraction or an ultrasonic cleaning that can cause hearing damage due to conduction of loud sounds through the bone directly to the ear. And of course, there is little you can do to protect your hearing in these instances. There is nothing that ear plugs can do because the sound is internal. A procedure you can protect your hearing from are MRI's, CAT's and other non-invasive scanning machines. These machines are very loud and could damage your hearing even if your head is outside of the machine while it is running. Most competent imaging facilities should supply you with earplugs.
With a sudden onset of ear ringing, you should consider the simplest explanation first. This condition may also be due to the recent exposure to a loud noise. Many people who have attended a concert complain of ear ringing for sometimes an entire day after the event is over. In these cases the ear ringing is due to the inner ear being damaged slightly and will not, in most cases, be permanent.

How to Cure an Ear Infection With Home Remedies

Before we begin talking about the cure of ear infections remember it is always important to identify the symptoms and know what you are dealing with before trying any treatment. I have suffered from ear infections since I was very little and now unfortunately, both of my children have already had multiple infections. We were tired of making numerous trips to the doctor each month so my grandmother gave me some of her home remedies that have worked like a charm! We have tried everything and these are among the best treatments that I have personally tried! Needless to say we have not been back to the doctor for treatment of an ear infection.
Garlic and Olive Oil Treatment.
You are going to need 4 Large Tablespoons of garlic. Some water some olive oil enough to fully cover the bottom of a sauce pan chop up some onion let it simmer (stir occasionally) until the garlic looks chunky and dry then strain the juice into a bowl or cup and use an eye dropper or syringe and put it into your ear, hold your head sideways for about 5-10 min. Then tilt your head and let the remaining juice come out. You can also place a cotton ball in the ear.
Lemon Juice Treatment
For really bad ear aches/infections squeeze lemon juice in your ear, keep it in for a few seconds, then let it drain out. I usually place a towel or cotton ball over the ear because this gets pretty sticky! The lemon helps to change the Ph levels in your ear. The bacteria is a base, and if you add the lemon, which is an acid, it neutralizes the Ph levels in your ear so that the bacteria cannot live in there!
Onion Treatment
Warm grated onion slightly in microwave, and drop a few drops of juice into ear with dropper. I used this with both my children when they were infants and it worked immediately! The stopped crying and were able to sleep!
Garlic, Oil and Colloidal Silver Treatment
Put few drops of garlic juice into the infected ear. Use blow dryer from about 12 to 15 inches from your head, this will remove any water trapped in the Eustachian tube. Put some olive oil on the warm spoon; put 2 to 3 drops of this in each ear. Put few drops of lobelia extract into the infected ear and rub it gently. Wash your ear using colloidal silver, it is a natural antibiotic. Slightly warm one teaspoon of juice of the mango leaf and put it into the infected ear drop by drop.
Steam Facial Treatment
Another great home remedy for ear infections involves draping a towel over the head and sitting over a bowl containing hot steaming water and essential oils. There are more then one type of oils that will benefit you, including ginger, peppermint, and eucalyptus. This home remedy is called a steam facial and can help clear up congestion and other symptoms that can aggravate ear infections.
Chocolate Coffee Beans are great as a yummy treat and great as a gift. You can also try Dark Chocolate Coffee Beans if that's more your style.

Physical changes experienced during pregnancy

There are a number of physical changes  that you will be experiencing only while you are pregnant. This might intrigue you or get you curious. But celebrate because now is the time these changes should be welcomed because soon you will have a new gift - a baby of your own who you are already grooming in your womb. Here are discussed some of the physical changes you are bound to notice during your pregnancy. As you have hormones fluctuating in your body due to your pregnancy, the blood vessels in your sinus and nose become bigger due to the increase in the level of progesterone. This enlarging of the cells and vessels makes your nose and sinus more perceptive to irritation. This will make your nose swell; feel stuffed without any manifestation of cold and might even cause your nose to bleed. This you will in all probability experience in your second trimester but soon be gone once you have delivered your baby if not weeks before the delivery. If you do experience a bleeding nose do not get panicky and just take care of the situation maturely. Try getting to the bathroom so you can stop from creating an unnecessary mess and sit down. Do not lie down or push your head back as that might cause you to swallow the blood and make you feel sicker. Take a paper napkin or towel or cotton swab and hold it at your nose, pinching the bridge so that the blood is absorbed. Do this for four minutes. Use an ice pack to cool the vessels and stop the bleeding. Stretch marks begin to appear from the time you cannot even see them on your breasts, stomach, hips, and thighs during the second trimester. Almost all women get stretch marks when they are pregnant. Initially they appear red but post your pregnancy they become silvery. These marks appear when your skin stretches beyond the elasticity limit to accommodate the weight gain and growing baby in your womb. If your skin stretches gradually, the chances of incurring stretch marks in lesser. Do not ever try to restrict your intake of food to help not gaining stretch marks, you will be sinning while depriving your baby of the food it needs for highly selfish purposes. If you refuse to give yourself food while you are pregnant, you are denying your baby its share of food. But what you can do maybe is eat a healthy and well balanced diet, try exercising, a well hydrated body develops lesser stretch marks, make sure you have been taking prenatal vitamins and try using cocoa butter and moisturizer to tone your skin. That helps. However stretch marks are wonderful naturally gifted mementos of your pregnancy. Some mothers love to see them from time to time. The hormonal changes which cause your nose bleeds are the ones that might result in bleeding gums as well. It definitely is not a happy feeling but it nothing to fear either. Just make sure you use toothpastes high in calcium and other herbal products that aid to strengthen your gums. Women also complain about having worsened eye sight during pregnancy. For most reports, the change is slight and temporary so you need not worry about it. However, it is good to be aware so have a good amount of proteins as they help to maintain good eyesight.

Nosebleed is common in dry climates during winter months, and in hot dry climates with low humidity. Individual taking blood clotting medications, aspirin, or antiinflammatory medications may be more prone to nose bleeding. Other factors that contribute to nosebleed are trauma (including nose picking), rhinitis, high blood pressure, and alcohol abuse. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition.

Everyone experiences a nosebleed from time to time. The cause may be an impact to the nose, but many times the nose bleeds because of nasal congestion due to a nasal allergy, strep throat, a sinus infection, or a cold that irritates and weakens the delicate nasal lining.

Most nosebleeds occur on the tip of the nasal septum, the tissue that separates the two sides of the nose. The septum contains many fragile, easily damaged blood vessels. This form of nosebleed is usually easy to stop. Less commonly, nosebleeds may occur higher on the septum or deeper in the nose. Such nosebleeds may be harder to control.

When an infected person sneezes or coughs, tiny droplets containing the bacteria move through the air, and the disease is easily spread from person to person. Initial symptoms, similar to the common cold, usually develop about a week after exposure to the bacteria. Severe episodes of coughing start about 10 to 12 days later. In children, the coughing often ends with a "whoop" noise. The sound is produced when the patient tries to take a breathe. The whoop is rare in patients under 6 months of age and in adults. Coughing spells may lead to vomiting. Pertussis should always be considered when vomiting occurs with coughing. In infants, choking spells are common.

A bleeding disorder is a health condition that makes it difficult for you to stop any bleeding. Normally, blood clots by changing from a liquid to a solid in an effort stop your injury from bleeding continuously. This is called coagulation.

Nosebleeds are very common. Most nosebleeds occur because of minor irritations or colds.  They can be frightening for some patients but are rarely life threatening.

The nose has an abundant supply of tiny blood vessels, which makes it easy for the nose to bleed. Air moving through the nose can dry and irritate the membranes lining the inside of the nose. The lining develops crusts that bleed when irritated by rubbing, picking, or blowing the nose.

Symptoms

Symptoms of posterior nosebleed include rapid bleeding from the back of the nose or a slow, steady ooze. Sometimes the blood flows back into your throat and causes you to cough up blood. This is more common with posterior nose bleeding to lose blood quickly.

Cures

To stop a nosebleed rakta pitta nashak, coolant pastes and procedures should be applied. You should: 1. Pinch all the soft parts of the nose together between your thumb and index finger. 2. Press firmly toward the face - compressing the pinched parts of the nose against the bones of the face. 3. Hold the nose for at least 5 minutes (timed by the clock). Repeat as necessary until the nose has stopped bleeding. 4. Sit quietly, keeping the head higher than the level of the heart; that is, sit up or lie with the head elevated. Do not lay flat or put your head between your legs.
